Rock Music originated in the mid-1950s and become a dominant form of popular music in the world. Though, rock has used a wide variety of instruments, it's basic elements are one of several vocalists, heavily amplified electric guitars, and drums. It began as a simple style, relying on heavy, dance-oriented rhythms and lyrics sympathetic to it's teenage audience.

My mother always told me that rock orginated from Elvis Presley . He wanted to try something new and it was a big hit . I don't care for Elvis Presley's music but when he sang he changed the sound of music forever . After him there were other bands that all tried to copy his style and most of them were a big hit also .

Rock originated as a “sanitized” form of the rhythm and blues of the mid 20th Century. Being black music it “wasn’t allowed” in mainstream media, or was deliberately ignored for that reason. Like jazz, a lot of white musicians loved it, and played it, and were acceptable to the media. When it started to sell, it suddenly became very acceptable, and black musicians were “allowed” to play their own music. The screeching, terrible wardrobes, delirious makeovers and generally over the edge stuff began as attention getting. The idea was to be as conspicuously revolutionary as possible, like the conspicuous consumer today, and in equally sad taste. The only revolution ever to bring its own cash register. That has evolved into the charming collection of brattish, overpaid cretins we see today. Some rock is still trying to be relevant, but most of it seems to be from the 1970s. There was some genuine rock, and some meaningful music, but as a genre it’s now living on its reputation, not its content.
