Do you think we can generalize about all the people in one country?

I have answered 2 discussions tonight that got me to thinking. Both of them were about a whole country of people. How can we say that all Americans are dumb on the computer, or tell what we think of the British? There are so many kinds of people in one country, Yes, there are dumb ones and smart ones and in between ones. So many personalities cannot be all bundled up into one generalization. What are your thoughts on this?

I belive thet people tend to generalize about everything!
Even me saying this is a generalization...:D
Of course, there's no man like another...I think those who generalize don't have enough arguments for what they're trying to say.

No I think we all post discussions like that based on our limited knowledge and interactions. I had rads somewhere that in our whole life we do not meet more than a 1000 people and we tend to choose our life partners among them and even make our opinions on that experience. So you see even when we say somthiong positive its based on our limited experience with the said community. Even you or me or any expert on that matter will not be able to escape this genralisaton of opinions.

Oh so true, But the post on American's dumb on the computer, If it wasnt for American's training them they wouldnt know crap, they get the training free, when we buy a computer we have to pay for the training. The British post havent seen it yet. Instead of People putting others down they should try to understand we are all different and can learn a little from each other instead of insult each other. Thanks for this Discussion.
