Do you spend more time hunting with your dog than playing with him or her?

I have a black Lab that I rasied for waterfowl hunting and he is very good at hand signaling and blind retreives. Aside from training, which is the most time spent with him, I hunt with my dog more than I play with him. For a hunting dog, or as the professionals would say, 'working dog', This is suppose to be best because the dog would lose his sense of strick dicipline if you play with him too much. Whats everybodys view on this? Should a working dog be played with as much as or more than he is hunted with?
