what u have mentioned is just one aspect of the disease. It cannot be generalised. Flat emotions is one of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia.

i have to disagree with the statement that their emotions are the same regardless of the situation..I was married to a shcizophrenic and i can certainly say that the emotional swings are drastic..the emotions can change from one minute to the next..so i will disagree with you on the "on the spot diagnosis".

well, there are different kinds of schizophrenia --- 1) paranoid schiz --- tend to be very suspicious of others and often have grand schemes of persecution at the root of their behavior. 2) Disorganized schiz - person is verbally incoherent and may have moods and emotions that are not appropriate to the situation. 3) Catatonic schiz - person is extremely withdrawn, negative and isolated, and has marked psychomotor disturbances. 4) Residual schiz - person lacks motivation and interest in day-to-day living. 5) Schizoaffective disorder - These people have symptoms of schizophrenia as well as mood disorder such as major depression, bipolar mania, or mixed mania. so, i guess not all schizophrenics have flat emotions at all.
