People without friends start talking to themselves in very odd ways. Friends help to keep the voices in your head quiet and give you someone to talk about the voices!

I don't necessarily agree with fredatedino. I think it is good to talk to friends, family or a professional if you really need someone to talk to just to voice your thoughts, opinion and ideas. People also try writing things in journals also, so therefore I really don't think that not having friends will make you go crazy. I think it is healthy to be able to interact with people though and not be totally antisocial.

For me, books are the best friends. I dont go for any new friends, i am happy with the friends i presently have. My family members are my best friends. I also have friends who are not my family members. As far as staying without friends is considered, i did do that a lot of times. And i did not find much of a difference. As long as i am with some books i dont find defficient in anything. I believe in this: 1 good book can change a person, 1 good friend can keep your life going and happy.

I think it depends on the individual. Some people don't feel complete without having a huge circle of friends. Others are fine just having a few. It really all depends on the individual. It is a good thing whether you have friends or not if you can enjoy being your own company once in a while. It kind of gives you a feeling of completeness. Nevertheless, friends have their place and purpose and I wouldn't say that it would be good not to have at least one good friend.
