why is america so over weight?

why is it that americans are over weight? and is there a cure for obecity. is this a major health concern for us americans? what can we do to prevent this?

The best way to help is for all of us to exercise more and eat less. Back in the middle ages, i.e. the 70's, we were more physically active.Most neighborhoods were safe enough for kids to go out and play. There was no Playstation,or personal computers, or remote controls so we had to get up and do things. And restaunts didn't have super-sized portions.I don't see how we can reverse this trend.

i do agree that we can not reverse this completly.but i think that if we were to limit the amount of fast food restaraunts from being placed in our neighbor hoods ,that might be a start.

Depend's on what you think is overweight I guess. Alot of people do eat out fast food's and that helps to put the calories on. I am one who cooks everynite. My family I don't think is overweight. But if you ask the experts they might say we are. We eat healthy but I don't do the fat free stuff. If more people would eat from home and just stick to the 3 meals a day with healthy snacks I think it would be ok.

Its all the carbohydrates we eat. An average person only needs about 100 carbs per day. Take a look at your food and see how many you eat. Our body stores any excess carbs as fat. Couple that fact with the fact that people don't get enough exercise. What with all the video games and game systems and computer games and things like that kids learn early not to exercise. Even going out for a half hour walk each day would help.

hi javajoe! As the famous quote says "IT IS WHAT WE EAT THAT MAKES US" there is truth about it because when we are fond of foods that are oily, fatty and cholesterol pack then it has the great chance of becoming fat. Americans and filipino has the same pattern in eating we adopt some of your western ways of eating and cooking and mostly it resulted to obesity, it is more helpful if we try to discipline ourselves and limit eating with food of no nutritional content. Japan has the record of a elders with long time and as we can see they are no skinny but they are healthy and they are eating vegetable and the food they eat are half cooked best of all they have tea.
