I got my first degree in ADMU and am now currently studying in UP. I can't say much for La Salle but it depends on whichever you value more. In Ateneo, I've learned discipline and strict standards. Whenever I make a project, there's always this push to make it really cool and pretty and really well done and submitted on time. In UP, I've learned independent thought and juggling multiple tasks. They really don't care what's going about you over there. If the teacher wants you to create a mosaic in three days while you're studying for your math AND your chem long test, you should find a way to manage that. Not that the other doesn't teach the same lessons but of course, some virtues are valued more... Anywhich way, I loved my stay in Ateneo and am loving my stay in UP so either way, it should be fun.

I,m from UP, too. But I've have friends from Ateneo. I've observed that Ateneo puts a premium on fluency on the English language. This is why most of Ateneans excel in debates. UP however, makes its student highly independent and well-rounded in terms of academics. Students have to do well-if not excel-in all fields. That's why they have to learn the art of doing multiple tasks without sacrificing any subject as well as their social lives.

True! Although the premium on the English language doesn't necessarily make Ateneans good at debates. It just makes them... better at English. Heh. When it comes to raw and original ideas, I think UP, in general, is better. Ateneans are better when it comes articulation. In the real world I'd say that a UP and an Ateneo graduate would make a great team. One's great at conceptualizing, and the other works well with execution.

Ateneans seems to be more adept at expressing their ideas or opinions in English while UPians true to their "Iskolar ng Bayan(State Scholar)" tag express themselves in Filipino even if they can speak English as good if not better than the Ateneans.

UP of course. That's where I came from. As they say, there are just two schools in the Philippines, UP and others. But before some people here would disagree, I don't believe that the university where you came from will be the barometer of your knowledge and skills. Go, go Iskolar ng Bayans!

This discussion seems to omit the third choice-La Salle. I guess it's really UP and others. I agree with you that where you studied does not always reflect your knowledge and skills. But I do believe that your school helps you develop it.

I'm a UP Diliman graduate so I would say UP...hahaha. This is how I see it. La Salle people are very down-to-earth too. Maybe a bit sosi because most of them are rich but not as "elitist" as Ateneans. It's a lot easier to relate to La Salle people, I think. As for Ateneans, from what I've heard among my cousins and friends they are trained to be managers. To give them credit, the school seems to have this way of bolstering their students' self confidence which makes it so easy for Ateneans to play corporate politics. My cousin who graduated MIS(?) from Ateneo said that their difference from Computer Science graduates is that MIS graduates are trained to be managers. Hahaha...yeah right. As if companies will hire new grads to be managers off the bat. I don't think they have the patience to start from the bottom and work their way up. My experience at work with Ateneans who play the politics game is that they become managers with no real knowledge and rely on their "boka" to get them by. At it takes them only so far. But there are SOME good hard-working Ateneans too. As for UP, I can't put my finger on it but I agree that one of the best things I learned is diskarte. Most schools are very bookish or de-kahon. If you put them in a spot they are unfamiliar with, they seem to have a difficult time coping. They have difficulty dealing with red tape, not-so-bright people, and problems that seem to spring out of nowhere. As for UP, it seems to come naturally to be able to cope with these things. I think it is because of the variety of people we come across in school and that enriches our learning. SORRY for the long post. :)

I would also answer UP. I may be biased because I graduated from UP, but I really think it's the best. I've wanted to study there since I was a kid. I applied to Ateneo and La Salle just in case I didn't pass the UPCAT, but it was definite that if I did pass the UPCAT, I would go to UP. And I did, and I have absolutely no regrets.

Im biased!!! Ofcourse it's UP. Im from UP eh. Im a pure blooded Iska. Well' i can say this coz in UP you can get a good quality education in almost just 1/5 the price of those studying in Ateneo and La Salle. Most profs in UP are also profs in those other universities. And most of all UP offers a wide range of courses that you can choose from, in your own liberty.

It's really UP, no questions about it. I've always wondered how other univs. would fare but the award really goes to UP on most areas mainly because its not run by a machinery with profit in mind. about lasalle, i can only say that some of my profs make fun of that school. ow, by the way, i'm from UP too, BS Mathematics

It really depends what field you are entering. Ateneo, UP and Lasalle are not just the choices hehe ;). I'm from Ateneo (I'm a Bs Management of Applied Chemistry major) but I'm still considering other schools for my M.A.

up is the best. despite what La Salle or Ateneo claims to be. Most Ateneo graduates tend to be good in talking, seldom in being doers. Just that. They are good at corporate politics but later on fall flat on their faces because of their terrible performance. They are so rigid that they cannot seem to relate to anybody outside of Ateneo worse they can not accept mistakes. Easy to see why given that their Jesuit mentors have the same affliction. The same is true with La Salle graduates but to a much limited extent. They are good at being entrepreneurs. I think this comes about on their emphasis on learning to work for themselves rather than for others. In this regard they are very much like UP graduates. The thing is, a UP graduate has more flexibility, he can adjust to any environment, be it in Payatas or in any corridor of power, corporate or otherwise. Ateneans they make good academicians and they are trained to work for somebody, never to be independent minded or be a critical thinker. I, by the way, am from up.

Can I just say UPLB? Hahaha! I am biased of course. Anyways, at the end of the day, it really is not about the school but about you as a person. :)

As a graduate of UP myself, I'd say UP as well. But you have to give credit to the other 2 schools since each is known for producing top graduates for specific fields. If you're considering a career in engineering, they say la salle is a good school. For law, UP and ateneo are the top schools in this field. Medicine? UP Med is still the best but the screening process is rather tough.

Well, Pls don't be biased with the 3 schools only. UST and UA&P are on its way.. UST is known for sciences, medicines and engineering as well. Our society needs scientist and engineers to make uor country progress. ADMU??? it only offers social sciences and business as well. but it does not offer courses like architecture (UST's center of excellence) nurcing engineering med tech medicine pharmacy music education pt, ot etc. biochem it etc.. DLSU has its outstanding alumni Cirilo Bautista and take note this famous person came from UST!!!! which means UST is much better in the 2 schools besides, not ateneans lasallite, nor peyups are so intelligent. everyone are equal.. NAGKATALO N LNG YAN SA RESEARCH PROGRAMS...

Where else but from the University of the Philippines! I'm from there too and I think there would be no better school than UP because of all the things that UP will teach you that will never be taught in other schools and that is of course taking responsibility for the harsh realities in life.
