Does anyone horse back ride? We haven't owned a horse but we half leased one. My daughter rides english. I was just curious how much you pay for lessons where you are from? It cost me 30 for a 30 minute private, 30 for a 1 hour group and 40 dollars for a 1 hour semi private. I am from Ontario, Canada.

Here in upstate NY we get 55 per hour.30 for a group lesson with up to 5 other students.35 for half hour. These are basic lessons.Dressage, jumping etc mybe more. My 17 year old daughter now gives beginners lessons for the 3 neighborhood kids. She gets 20 each for her 3 students.Of course We are there to supervise. They spent alot of time on the ground ,learning anatomy, grooming etc.She gives them a good hour and they get to hang around the horses most evening also. They are only walk /trot .She babysits these kids and has had such a great time with them. They all did well with their 4H riding evals so I guess she is doing ok.I would not suggest you get the neighbor kid to teach you child though unless she has had extensive training and is certified to the level she is teaching.

Sounds like your daughter is advanced well in riding. I took my daughter to a different barn last night. The guy who taught her was only supposed to be giving her a half hour private, she ended up spending over an hour on the horse. The instructor had been training in Germany the last few years. He does not feel my daughter is as far along as she should be for the money we have been paying. He told her she is not paying him to be nice he is going to work her hard and let her know when she is going wrong. We are going to try this guy for a few weeks and see. He is very classical dressage.

Her new instructors name is Daryl. Westover is only 9 hours away. When in July is it held? We are going on holidays starting July 20th to Newfoundland the province were I was born. Sarah would be so excited if I could take here to something like this. It would be cool to meet to. My daughter is 16.

Linda, Your new instructor sounds just like my friend George. He goes to Germany for dressage every year and when he instructs you listen. He has no time for whiners but is an excellent instructor. I hope she get's alot out of the lessons. Dressage is so beautiful when done well, don't you agree? Every year I have a horse show and a gymkhana at the Essex County Fair in Westport,NY.in July. You can check it out at essexcountyfair.org We do have riders from Canada.Check us out on mapquest ,How far are we from you? Wouldn,t it be fun to meet?

I take and also teach lessons at a barn in North Carolina. One hour private is $50, half hour private $35. We have a few semi private ones, but I can't remember the prices for those. I find that I personally get a lot more from a private lesson, but I think it depends on the person. I would also be willing to do semi private or maybe small groups to save a buck or two. It also depends on the level of the rider.

She is doing english and contrating on dressage. What kind of lessons do you teach, western or english. She was going to do Hunter/Jumper but she tried it and didn't like it.

I live in Minnesota and that's fairly comparable to what we pay here and in fact is a little less. A private lesson here is $35 for 1/2 hour. It can run into money but the it's worth every penny for the knowledge and enjoyment that will be gained from riding. It's an investment in a lifetime of good times and love!
