I have heard that Mexico City sinks about 10 inches a year.Why is it sinking?

Could be because they are using up the water from the ground. Most cities are sinking due to this occuring. From time to time in the States here we get sink holes, usually some underground pipes bursting from age or the ground just gives way since we use up the resource of water and don't manage to put it back.
