I'm currently trying to trace some ancestors and wondered how many have you have done this? How easy was it for you? How far back have you gone? Have you found anyone famous in your history?

It's really interesting and addictive isn't it? I'm having some difficulties as I was adopted, but found out so much more information and now awaiting the arrival of the birth certificate of a sister I wasn't sure I even had! Thanks for your comment!

I did my family tree a few years ago, I have gone back about 5 generations in one line, if I wanted to go further I would have to go to the UK....its great fun doing your family tree.

Hi lilaclady, thanks for your quick response - did you know that there is a really good website for tracing ancestors in the UK and you don't have to pay for some of the searches? Ancestry.co.uk has free searches going back to the early 18th century!

My children's dad's family has got their family tree traced back almost to the beginning of time.. lol.. I tried to do the same thing but my side of the family is kind of messed up.. apparently we've had generation after generation of disfunctional families.. lol.. My dad was adopted by his aunt when he was 2 and his father just disappeared. It was just last summer that he was able to track him down ( only to be 6 months too late as he had passed away) but we did learn a bit more information and discovered that he had a bunch of brothers and stuff so at least now I have more information to work with. Although I've been so busy just trying to get my own life going somewhere that I haven't taken the time to go searching again.. one day I'll get back to it.

Oh it's a shame that he got to his father too late. I think that's why I've started searching again. It is an interesting hobby but I'll agree with you it is quite time consuming! Good luck for when you get back to it!
