What you should have in place in order to be a good volunteer organisation

We are an organisation who support adults with learning disabilities, both in their own homes and through a day service. As part of our day service, we are looking to offer the people we support meaningful work, whether this be paid, unpaid or voluntary. Voluntary work is something that we are particularly interested in pursuing at the moment. However we obviously need to satisfy ourselves that any working environment we offer to the people we support meets certain health and safety standards, will treat their volunteers well, etc. We therefore would really like to know if there are any guidelines out there on what to look for and ask for in a volunteer organisation? A list of good practices for a volunteer organisation? What is good practice in supporting volunteers? Sam Crockett
