Basically, the 'big gut' is an indicator of large amounts of omentum fat. When there is a lot of fat filling the omentum, the liver has to work hard to metabolize it, so other energy sources, like fat elsewhere on the body and the foods we ingest, have to wait to be digested or metabolized. There is a terrific new book out called "You on a Diet" by Mehmet Oz. It gives lots of information about omentum fat and how to reduce it. The book also contains lots of info about good foods, like beans, cranberries, and tomatoes, that promote health.

that is usually the case because protruding tummies indicate lack of exercise and not eating the right foods, both situations can weaken the heart.
