can you tell me about the freedom riders?

My son is doing a project for Black History Month. He is going to be a Freedom Rider and he has to give a one minute presentation about himself. We've been looking it up and read lots. I just want to get your input about how he should dress. Any creative wording for protest signs? What kind of dialect should he have? Most of them were from the north, weren't they? This is from the Freedom Rides in 1961. So anyone who knows a little about the Civil Rights movement, I would love to have your input. Do you know of a good black histiry website?
