Its 10th Muhaaram in Pakistan today and this day has very much importance n't only in Islamic History but also in the world too. GrandSon {Son of Daughter} of our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad {P.B.U.H} was martyred on 10th maharram at the central time between noon and evening. He the great Son gave sacrifice of His life to protect Islam. His head was seperated from His rest of body. He was martyred bcuz another person wanted to see GrandSon named Hazrat Ummam Hussain {R.A} under his own choice but Hazrat Ummam Hssain {R.A} wanted to protect Islam and gave sacrifice of His life. He remained hungry and thirst for ten days. His sons, Who was only 6 months old was too martryed and plenty of other Muslims were too martyred. Hazrat Hussain {R.A} said many times to his followers to run away but they all great people did n't go away and gave sacrifices of their lifes. Importance of 10th Muharram in the World: Feroon {the cruel king} who killed the sons of isreal thousands of years ago was dived into sea and his followers too, There was another Prophet {Hazrat Nou}, His ship reached to edge on 10th Muharram, 1st Human Being {Hazrat Adam} came on this world on 10th Muharram, Day of Judgement'll be held on 10th Muharram and day'll be Friday.

I actually knew about the Mosques and Churches as I know about the Clerics and Immams. I have not studied about the holidays though and that is of interest to mee. Now is the 10th Muharram an estimate of the arival of Adam (Hazrat) like the Christian's Christmas? How did they arrive at that particular date? As I said this date is of interest to mee. For those that read this later down the road today's date on the Gregorian Calender (used in US, CA, etc..) is January 30th, 2007. It sounds like a very humanatarian holiday, distributing food to the poor. Is it like a meal or just a token offering like communion? This truely is interesting as I thrive on knowledge. Thank you for the reply as your answer was helpful. Maybe I will do a web search to find more information on this. Once again thank you and have a great day!!

Thank u very much for taking too much interest. Muslims cook at their homes special dishes and specially rice and then after cooking them, they distribute them among diffferent relatives, friends, poor people. Well, how can christans say that Jesus was born on 25th december?? Actually, if u'll go in deep then u'll have to study Islam in details. Muharram is an Islamic month. Its first month of Islamic calender. Jan, feb etc. r months of english claenders. I am sure that Hazrat Adam came on 10th Muharram bcuz our Islamic history says it and its our belief that they lived in the heaven and then He once did a mistake and God sent him on this world on "10th Muharram" and so the system of world started. I did n't mention above but want to tell u that "When Hazrat Adam did mistake, He was pardon on 10th Muharram". If u want to see more details about Muharram then i found a link after search for u. U amy visit it if u r interested: http://www.islamonline.net/English/In_Depth/hijry/1425/article/14.shtml

Thank you for all of this information sweetie, and it is important that if we are to live in harmony then we should know something about the different religious celebrations, regardless of the religion involved. As you know I am a Christian but at the same time I also find it interesting to know about different religions. I think that it helps us to understand each other a little better. Thanks also for the site which you put in a comment to one of the other responses, and I will have a look at it later on when I am finished here on myLot. I hope that your day went well and I do like the idea that people share food with others, particularly the poor and needy. Many Churches do something similar but of course it is usually at Easter and Christmas where they give our what are known as food parcels to those who are in need. Also some of them have food banks where the poor and needy can get food either very cheaply or sometimes for free.
