Saddam Hussein's hanging: Was the death penalty the right sentence?

I can't believe it really happened. I mean, I do know that it happened, but it's taking a long time for my head to adjust to the idea that Saddam Hussein is no longer alive. I feel pretty sick about it honestly...but that's a natural reaction in me because I'm so staunchly opposed to killing people, regardless of their crime.
