The Da Vinci Code is a good fictional novel.
I would say my favorite would have to be "Things Fall Apart" I suggest it to everyone.

It's by Chinua Achebe. It's about a Nigerian tribe, showing the traditions and culture and how the tribe is effected when another culture comes in and "culturalize" them. It's a wonderful book, easy to follow.
