Tatoos in the work place.

tatoos - Tatoos showing, not covered up.

I saw on the news this morning that more and more employers are letting their employees show their tatoos. I was wondering how many people work with others that have tatoos and do they have to cover them up or can they just leave them uncovered?

I don;t think tat's are such a big thing like they used to be. I work in a very conservative office (I'm an accountant!!) although I currently have 3 tattoos and I'm considering having more. I too, planned my pieces so that I can cover them when I wish to do so. As they are on my upper thigh (below my hip), on my stomach, and my chest, I can cover them fully with as little as shorts and a tee-shirt. The one on my chest has been noticed at work, if I wore a thin shirt and it has shown through, but I only get a few questions about when I got it and if I have any more. I think the 'rules' in most places now are that you shouldn't have any on your hands, neck, or face.

I agree totally that there is nothing wrong with having them. I guess I wouldn't hire anyone either if the tats were on their face or neck. Some people are pretty touchy about seeing people that way. Thanks for the response.

Actually, before I even got tats, I know I didn't want them on my arms...I have tats on my back, chest and one on my leg, due to when I first got them, I was younger. I always said If I got into the corporate world I wouldn't want them up and down my arms... Today, I do work in the corporate world and I don't have any problem...at my job if someone have tats it's not a really big issue just as long as it's not totally covering up and down their arms or neck...

That's nice. I know lots of people with them on their arms. They aren't to bad as long as they are dirty or racial. A friend of mine has some really nice dragons on his arm. His are fading now and his job doesn't mind them. I'm glad I never got one. Alot of my family have them but they are cute ones. Thanks for the response.

tatoos - some are really nice but others are not for others to see.
my old job told us that we had to cover up the tatoos, its good as the kids in the daycare do not need to see them,

i have 2 tattoos and though they are usually covered when i wear pants and a nice shirt, when i wear capris or a skirt then you can see the one on my ankle and my employer does not have a problem with it.

that's good that your employer doesn't have a problem with it. I think it should be welcome by the employer's as long as they aren't to provacative or really bad ones that would offend anyone. I see nothing wrong with them either.

I have two, and they're almost always covered. You can see the one on my thigh when I wear a bathing suit the one in my pic is hidden unless I wear a low-cut blouse. Most people are very surprised to find out I have tattoos, I really don't look the part - even though they are becoming more main-stream. When I get my next one, I don't know that anyone will be able to see it (on my back, to the right) unless I wear a 2-peice... The last job I had had a policy about covering tattoos and peircings. That made things worse because people started wearing neon bandages over them - it was actually quite funny!

Well, i personally have two tattoos myself. When i worked in the bar i showed alot of skin so my tattoos always showed and i got alot of compliments for them along with probably too much attention...LOL! However i cover them up on my own for example when i substitute teach! I worked today and i always dress properly and make sure that i wear a longer sweater so that the kids do not see my lower back tattoo!

I know they talked with one employer who said they have to stop being so picky. Otherwise they won't have any employees. I don't mind tatoos. I don't have any myself but my daughter has one on her waist area on her back. It's really pretty.
