Do you like Baklava? Or can you make Baklava? Got a recipe to share? If you buy it, where do you buy it from? I love the taste of this Meditteranean dessert.

I buy it a the super, but don´t do it often even though I love it. It´s just that it seems to me that there´s nothing more full of carbs and fat. Sometimes I think I´d like to learn to make them, but then I repent

Hi marief2rnurse, I also love Bakalava. I have not tried making one though because I am a tad too intimidated on how to work with the filo pastry that it entails. However, there are several restaurants here in Manila where I usually get my baklava fix. One of them is Cyma Restaurant. They are by far the best Greek Restaurant which serves Bakalava. Also, Cafe Mediterranean sells decent baklava which I enjoy as well. The thing with baklava is that it is so good whether you eat it as snack, dessert, or even main course. In the future I may be able to get into baking one, but for now, I am pretty contented with what I am getting from the restaurants.

Hi! I love baklava, and have a recipe you are going to just love! I bought this book when I was in Greece, and it has become my Greek cooking bible! I'll type it exactly as it appears in the book :) 1/2 kg fyllo pastry 2 teacups almonds, pounded into crumbs 1 1/2 teacups butter 1/2 teacup sugar 1 tablespoon cinnamon SYRUP: 3 teacups sugar 1 teacup honey 2 teacups water Cinnamon stick 1 teaspoon clove sticks In a bowl, mix the pounded almonds, the sugar and the cinnamon. Butter a small pan and lay a few sheets of fyllo pastry onto it, brushing each one with butter. Next, spread a small amount of the almond mixture over the fyllo layer. Continue by making successive layers of fyllo and almond mix of about equal thickness. Finish with a thicker layer of fyllo sheets (6-8 sheets) brushing each sheet with butter. With a sharp knife cut the baklave into diamond shaoped pieces. Sprinkle with water and bake in a medium oven for about an hour. In the meantime, prepare the syrup as follows: In a pot, place the water, the honey, the sugar, and the spices and boil them over a strong fire for about 15 minutes. When the baklava is ready, remove it from the oven and let it cool. Pour the boiling syrup over it. Cut out the pieces, that were marked before baking.
