Ok, here goes: I have Bear (a chow I rescued who already had the name for obvious reasons, he looks like a teddy bear) Then there is Loki (a puggle (pug/beagle mix) that is the epitomy of hyper dog. He jumps 4 feet in the air, easily and is into anything he can find, I named him after the god of mischeif, because he certainly causes enough of it) Then there is Reuben (he is a big slobbering mass of St Bernard. My husband named him. I personally would have named him Thor, he has a hammerlike marking on his hindquarters and he sounds like the thunder when he runs)

My dog is called Kevin the Collie. It is not a usual doggie ame but it suits him. Also I like the alliteration - 'Kevin the Collie'! He has a blog, htp://top-dog-tips.blogspot.com getting lots of doggie friends on there. Before I got him I always wanted to name a dog 'jumble' this was the name of William Brown's dog in 'Just William', which I read as a child.

I've had many dogs as pets in my life. I love to hear all the unusual names people give their pets. My last dog was named Missy, she looked so pretty like lady from Lady and the Tramp, but she responded to Missy. My grand dog is a poodle named Chloe Chenille, yeah go figure. My son had a boxer named Boaz and a cat named Ruth, yeah he is a preacher and picked those names. Actually I think it was he and his wife that chose those names. My husband had some neat names for his dogs, Margo & Snidly. I've had a Fugi, Spunky, Frisky, Pepper, Tillie, Katie, Didi, Rascal. I loved all of them.

I have a female labrador retriever. I was going to name her lady Diana. But after a week of getting to know her, she was no lady. She is more like a tomboy so I named her Xena, after the TV show Xena warrior princess.

I don't have a dog any more :( I wish I did but I live in a townhouse and there just isn't enough room. anyways.. I'm not sure about common names and these aren't even names that I used but the best names I ever heard where my buddy mark's dogs.. they were pit/lab crosses, brothers, named Defer (as in d for dog) and diogy ( as in D-O-G) Still makes me giggle 10 years later...
