can we change the "best response" in our discussion?

Best Response - So cute! The response is so cute!

I have started a discussion a few days ago re: Snape & Dumbledore and chose one of the respondents for best response. But just now, I've read a response and it was really, really good. It really captivated what I was trying to get from my respondents. You guys should take a look at it if you are into Harry Potter books. But I don't know how to mark her response as THE BEST since I have already given the mark to another one who posted earlier.

you cant change the best response.but you can give a + rating to her.though it is less than the best response yet it is also one form of appreciation.anyway try to wait for atleast 3 days to give the best response.

Thank you for your response. How do I give a rating? Is it by simply commenting on her post? More of like this one?

You can use the plus rating for people that give good responses like the one you mentioned as well as the others. The - rating can be used for too short of an answer, rude remarks or a comment that does not have anything to do with your topic. The ! abuse rating is to report cheaters and people saying awful things to people.

Unfortunately in this instance once you have chosen a best response there is no way to change it, or to give another respondent that award but you can always give them a positive (+) rating. It is not quite the same I do realise but at the same time, it is an acknowledgement of the efforts of the person for making a good response. This has probably happened to many members over the time of myLot and so if it does happen you can make a comment like "I have given you a positive (+) rating for this discussion and I am sorry I cannot give you best response but it had already been awarded. You have a great response too and it summed up just what I was looking for, so thank you for contributing to this discussion". Of course you can use your own words, but something along these lines will probably make the member who got it very happy. Each person has their own way of doing things I know, but for me the first thing I do when I come here to myLot is to check my own discussions. At that time I make a comment where applicable and also rate the response, using the positive (+) or negative (-) rating. The positive for very good responses and the negative for those who spam or make a response which clearly shows they haven't read the discussion other than the heading, or someone who only puts in 1 or 2 words. Then once the responses slow down, which can be up to a week, I will make a best response. The person who gets that will already have a best response, but it also means that everyone has had a fair chance to say what they think about my discussion. There have actually been times when for some reason or other it has been much longer than a week before giving best response. Not too often, but it can be that there is only one response and it does not quite cover the points I raised. However mostly the best response is given out in the first week or so. At the same time I do know some people who give out the best response within a couple of hours, others the first day and some it takes them months to do it. So it is up to the individual what they do, but I honestly think that everyone should give out a best response for all discussions. The only exceptions are if nobody has responded or if those who have responded, have not actually addressed the issues raised my me when I started the discussion. Good luck in future. :)

I sometimes wish we had the option of several best responses. i find it hard to just pick one when sometimes you get many good ones. I usually wait a week or more before picking a best response. Some discussions I haven't picked one at all because there were so many really good ones and I couldn't decide. And I agree with the other poster about giving a positive rating to all good answers.

sadly , , we cannot change the best response , , well , , if you find one reply that you think is nice , ,then you can give that person a postive rating ,, well , , at least , , that is the only thing that you can do , , sometimes, , i have been thinking , , what if mylot adds a new feature ? , , that we can choose up to three best responses , , it's hard to decide which is which , , right?

Once you have selected someone as the best response you can not change it. You should wait at least week so that other people get a chance to put their comments in if interested. That way you would avoid situations like this. If they allowed us to change the best response, it would not be fair to them to do that. I try to wait longer to make sure others can put their comments in, unless I see that nobody or very few are responding. You can still give that person a + rating to let them know you appreciated their comment.
