            Hi all... do you know freeware alternatives of the costly programs? let me give a head start
Ubuntu        - Microsoft Windows
On Windows platform
Developer C++ - Microsoft Visual Studio
FreeMat       - Matlab
Abiword       - Microsoft Word
Dia           - Corel Draw
Gimp          - Adobe PhotoShop
Blender       - 3D Studio Max, Maya

                    NVU is a great free program that emmulates Front Page:  http://www.nvu.com/index.php  I've tried it out and it is nice.  
Foxit Reader is a replacement for Adobe Acrobat Reader.  I haven't tried this but I have heard about it:  http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
