I've been figuring that out for the longest time. . . It seems that nobody's sure why yawning is contagious. What do you know about these?

Yawning is the sucking in of oxygen as your brain is lacking oxygen and that is you you yawn in the first place. So if you yawn and suck in an ammount of air that takes away air from another person so they then have to yawn as well. I think it is something like this. I remember having a discussion with my science teacher. But that was like 2 years ago or something.

I have always wondered the reason for that too! I'm not sure why, but it happens to me all the time too. Sometimes when I'm talking to a friend and one of us yawns, we'll just start passing it back and forth and we take turns yawning! lol It's pretty funny, but it starts to get annoying after awhile when you can't get it to stop! haha

I'm not sure I know why yawning is contagius, but when I saw somebody yawning....automatically, I'll yawn too. I hate it when that happened but I can't help it even if I try to turn my head to look the other way, I will still yawn too...

LOL =) Even just the word 'yawn' makes me yawn (like now). I don't know why it's so contagious. If I see someone yawn, I do too! I have no idea if anyone has a scientific explanation for this. But I believe there is though.

Not all the time, but yes i've noticed too. If there are five people in the room, atleast 2-3 will yawn one after the other.

Here Are Some Quick Did You Know Facts On Yawning: Reading about yawning will make you yawn. Yawning is contagious. Seeing someone yawning will make you yawn too, usually within five minutes. Most yawns occur during the hour before sleeping and the hour after waking. All animals yawn - fish, birds, snake, dogs, cats etc. Research has shown that at 11 week old fetuses yawn. The average duration of a yawn is about 6 seconds. Did you yawn while reading all of this? If you did, I hope it was not from boredom. I am yawning as this sentence is being written (YAWN).
