everyone has a calling

lets talk about vocation here. vocation is something that one commits to his or her whole life with. it may bring monetary rewards, but that does not really matter for it to be called as such.vocation is, as its etimological meaning would posit, a calling to do something. one cannot really call it a passion because passions come and go. also, it can't be passion because it would just mean that you do it because of some emotional or mental attachment which could vanish in the future. vocation is something rooted in something deeper; it is lived in one's whole life. it cannot, also, be a profession because a profession is something that one does to earn a living- it is something impersonal. one could say that he or she is a professional boxer or a professional architect, only as long as when he is on the ring or at the peak of his/her career. once he or she gets old or retires, the 'professional' is omitted and the person becomes just a 'retired' boxer or a 'retired' architect. no one can retire from a vocation...

its like work but you get to dedicate your whole life to it. any profession can be a vocation if you give your life to it, and it becomes meaningful not just because you earn from it but because you live it. gets?
