Collection of data consistitutes the first step in statistical investigation.It is only on the data collected that the super structure of statistical analysis and decision making is built. If the data collected are reliable,correct decisions can be taken,otherwise one may reach to the conclusions which may mislead. Before starting the work of data collection the investigator has to carry out preliminary analysis of the problem in question.
