Do you think religion is out of date? Do we need something new to believe in?

Religion has given us a focus for many hundreds of years now. Do you think it is time we gave up these outdating ideas and got something new to believe in based on what we now know from the technology we have? Perhaps something that will stop all the wars in the world and help us live in peaceful harmony?

I think that religion is not outdated on itself, but some of the rites and moral doctrines that religious clergies (christian muslim or whichever other creed) are. Most of the sacred books were written more than 1000 years ago, and that's a long time. Moreover, the most significant members of those religions are often conservative and leery to accept any change, any update to the present times...that is what makes some think that religion makes no sense anymore: religion sometimes becomes distant from nowadays reality. But if you think of it nowadays there are several radical religious movements, and not only muslims, also christian, like some churches in the united states...so i wouldn't say that religion is something that belongs to the past.

If u do n't mind then let me know that r u in ur senses????? Listen! all these wars, terrorism is only due to our long difference between our religious teachings and between our present living style. Whatever the religion is either its Islam, christan, hinduism. No religion of the world allows wars. I think that its better for us to go in deep of our religions instead of doing something else.

To tell you the truth, religion scares me! I think it has caused more wars, more deaths, and more unhappiness, than anythng else in this world over the years. I would love to see something "replace" it, that people could relate to, and use to live in peace, and harmony with each other regardless of their creed or culture. Quite what, I do not know though!

I think religion is one thing on earth that will be quite difficult to change. Changing it would mean changing what we have believed in and what beliefs we have grown up with. I dont disagree though that there should be change especially that I think the church should be flexible on how things are nowadays i.e birth controls . Change wouldnt be about rewritingt he whole bible but just something that go with times. Our church is very conversative when it comes to beliefs and maybe it is time to be adjust a little.

Yes I do agree with you. its time to outdate any thing taht differentiats human beings and time to embrace something that sees all humans as one and through which manipulative leaders cannot start a communal riot and differences on its basis among people. Guess we should remove caste religion and other things like these which differentiate people to make this world united under humanity:-)

Please don't say this again do you know why:- each one of us have physical and spiritual body so, the pysical body we feed it by food and drinks and the spirtual one by prayers which came from the religion you believe on. after what i told you imagine yourself without areligion! even if some people looks like bad guys always looking for war and blood althought they have religion that can be explained: (good and evil tell the end of our life)

I understand and respect your beliefs nady, but you cannot ask anybody not to say something anymore...it's our freedom of speech and we cannot limitate that. You have those strong beliefs, but you must understand that some of us may share or not share them, and we are equally allowed to have those beliefs than you ok?

Religion is definately a problem. But, belief in God and Christ is worth holding on to. If people would behave more like Christ and do what Christ says, there would be very few problems. I believe that if we truly get to know God and behave the way he wants us to, we would definately live in peaceful harmony.

I don't know that religion is outdated, as a believer in God it would be absurd to suggest that God is outdated anyway. Certainly dogma and those that peddle it should be outdated. Perhaps we need something to make us all calmer such as yoga or falun gong (pity they hate it so much in China). Something to bring out the serenity in human beings!

I think it's out of date in the sence that a lot of people I know, including myself, don't go to a worshipping place anymore and are really relaxed about religion. I think it used to dictate people's lives more than it does now. It would be nice if we could stop all the wars in the world and live in peace. We would have to have something though that would stop hatred.

The only way I can see of your dream about harmony is a complicated government. It would need to be centralized. It would need to be totalitarian, encompassing the whole of the Earth. Every single sidearm and balistic would need to be taken from the hands of non-service humans. This new government would also have to squelch certain things. One being religion, well you could still have it. Religion would chang, it would only have recreational clout. Like your bowling league or club. That's just my take.
