Why is it so hard for a toddler or preschooler to share their things, like especially toys?

I think it's hard for toddlers and preschool age children to share their things because they don't quite understand the concept of sharing. They think if you give it to someone else, it will no longer be theirs. Everything I've ever read about it has said that you shouldn't force them to give up their toys simply because they don't understand the concept of sharing. YOu can demonstrate sharing in front of them, but if they still don't get it, you shouldn't take the toys away from them.

because the toys belong to them, and they don't realize that the other child is not going to take them away. Why is it so important to you that your child share everything he has with others? you don't! I'm sure you wouldn't lend your car to the neighbours teenager just because he wanted to use it!
