do you debate for debating sake?

many people just debate for debating sake rather arriving at a conclusion.
although they know what valid points can stop debate but they willingly keep the debate in limbo is it right for a debate?

Very few people concede in a debate. Losing is not an easy thing to accept even when it is obvious, it goes against the grain of human pride. He will do everything even to the extent of being ridiculuos just to prove a point. Some people even resort to splitting hairs.
I think nothing can take the place of a friendly dialogue.
