Is life easier now than it was 50 years ago?

I often wonder with all our modern gadgets and technology if life is easier or harder than it used to be. I feel constantly under preassure as do most people I know. I often listen to my mum and elders talking about how hard they had it - and they did. No dishwashers, washing machines, steam irons , microwaves- ready meals , disposable nappies etc.. but the seemed to somehow have a better quality of life than we do now.
