Groundhog Day, Just Silly

I just find it to be so stupid. There is no merrit, no real value for people to gather around some groundhog to determine an early spring or more winter. This has been what is all over the news this morning! I know it's all in fun, but just a bunch of wasted news. What do you think?

It's said that the groundhog seeing it's shadow or not determines if Spring is around the corner. The truth is, they are watching to see if the groundhog hurries back into his hole or searches for food... if he starts searching and eating then Spring is coming because this means he is ready to come out of hibernation. I think it's a cool way of determining how close Spring really is ; )

I think that hearing about a groundhog and seeing smiles on the news even for just a few minutes. Not to mention it makes me remember the movie every year. Talk about a genious idea for a movie, Bill Murray is going to be immortal!

I couldn't agree more! 6 more weeks of winter, or springs just around the corner. If I'm not mistaken in 6 more weeks is the official start of spring, so isn't it a bit redundant? And how the heck do they know if he sees his shadow or not? With all the lights from the camera's he's GOT to see his shadow. And on the news this morning they were saying there's only a 33% chance that he's right. Either way, Spring will come when it gets here! And at different times depending on where you are in the US! Sure it's a fun little activity event for kids, but for adults? Please. ::Sheesh::

Yes stupid and no foundation for the "event" and my heart goes out to the poor groundhog. But, I do find it refreshing to see something "good" on the news! It gets soooo depressing at times all the bad in the world. And, YIPPIE and early spring is around the corner according to reports I hear :) I love spring, my favorite time of year. Bitter cold here in Michigan so am really looking forward to it today.
