I need your suggestions! Are Jacuzzi's ok for pregnant women?

Baby - Baby drinking from a bottle, not the right kind but a bottle. Very funny as long as it is a joke.

My husband just got us a hotel room with a jacuzzi. It isn't the huge kind that are usually in hotel rooms, but a bigger version of a bathtub. When we go I will be about 7 months pregnant. I don't want to harm my baby in any way. I know they suggest no hottubs, but what about a bathtub/jacuzzi? Please let me know what you think or know.

I would say no b/c the temperature is too hot. I wouldn't do it. If you want, ask your doctor. They may be able to offer a more professional opinion. My doctor said no baths period the whole time I was pregnant.

Ok I was just looking online and found a few sites that talk about taking baths while pregnant. It says baths are good for pregnant women, as they are relaxing. Just say do not go in hottubs or take baths that are much over 100 degrees because you do n't want the temp to rise too much. Also, they said perfectly fine after first trimester. I am going to keep looking of course, but this is hopeful!! http://www.family4life.com/nursenana/myths_old_wives_tales_taking_baths.htm

Usually with those bigger jet bathtubs you can control how hot you want it. I wouldn't suggest being in it for more then 15 minutes and not to have it too hot. They tell pregnant women even in hot weather to stay in shade and drink water. You do not want to get hot. Be careful...btw those tubs are really fun to be in!

Oh I know they are great! We had a weekend with a jacuzzi tub this summer, which is why I REALLy don't want to pass it up if I don't have to. Just want to make sure it is ok, otherwise I won't...don't want to harm the baby! Thanks for responding.

Your baby will be fine just do not sit in the water for too long at one time. I would say 20 minutes tops and then get out if you like go back in after a little while. Your baby will be fine!!!

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. The more I am reading on it the more I am seeing that it is ok, in moderation and not too hot. Unless someone tells me otherwise or the doctor, I will go for it. I will prob take a thermometor or something---don't want to get it too hot! yeah I am paranoid, must be because this is our first and I am just nervous about messing up!

my doctor said they are not ok for pregnant women. something about the heat will make your body temp go up too high and could hurt the baby some how.

When I was pregnant with my son, I had the same question. My Midwife told me that a Spa/Hottub was too hot. You have a normal body temperature of 98.6(usually), the baby's body temperature is 2 degrees higher than that. The reason why it's dangerous is because our bodies naturally regulate our temperature. The baby doesn't have that ability. When your body temp goes up, so does the baby's. which could increase the risk of brain damage. That is also why if you have a fever of 101 or higher, you're to go to the ER. Now...bathtubs, are a little different. I was told its safe to take a bath as long as it's the same temp or slightly warmer than your body temp. And not to stay in it too long. I usually took a bath once a week, for about 15 minutes, just to give my muscles a break, and to relax a little. But I'm not you're doctor. This is just my opinion and what I was told. I would ask your doctor.

Thanks for the info! And the reasons for the problems. I won't do the hottub, and I am going to buy a thermometer so I don't get the temp too hot. Again, THANK YOU!!
