Pouring drinks like Whiskey, Cognac, Gin or Vodka Tonic, what I would call base spirits I tend to estimate without bothering to use a "peg measure" or a "jigger".
However cocktails are another matter altogether.
Whether a martini, daiquiri, pina colada, tom collins, long island iced tea, or even the humble bloody mary I use measuring jiggers, measuring spoons and even a set of mini scales to ensure that the proportions are perfect (I have my own recipes)
That is the only way I know how to make delicious cocktails, consistently.

Coffeechat,
Can I come over to your house for cocktails? It sounds as if you've got experience making a variety of delicious cocktails. Do you entertain a lot?

I can't be bothered with the shot glass, either. It's just another thing to wash. Besides, even if I measured with a shot glass I would always add an extra splash or two, so what's the use?
