Is manga better than anime or is anime better than manga? Obviously, anime is more colourful, beautiful and the chars speak and gives real sounds, besides it's a moving manga. It doesn't involve much imagination. Sometimes the artistic works of a anime looks better than the manga. But, mangas have their special qualities. The entire story comes alive in your imagination and for each person (according to his knowledge and experience) the story takes a unique turn. Your mind makes the story alive YOUR way. for example, in an anime, the voice of some chars don't sem to suit the charecter, but in mangas, your mind automatically decides a voice and tone for him that is the most suiting for the charecter. Plus, the mangas have the real mangaka's artistic works which is usually cut out or distorted in an anime. and for eg of the eg: Touya Akira and Shindou Hikaru of Hikaru No Go is WAY better than the respective of the anime... So decide - is manga better or does anime have its good qualities too?

I guess that's a good point too. Anime is easier to understand and better to enjoy. Thanks for the additional view.

i'd go for manga if the story is short, but if the story is kinda long, i'd go by watching it. ^_^

That's true. Even i feel the same. That kind of makes you wonder - why are mangas made into animes? They're the same thing after all. I suppose it's to make more money.

Well, maybe its same as a book being made into a movie, or something like that, and its also for people like me who are too lazy to read a long story. hehe. ^_^ '

i think it goes either way. in some stories the manga is better because it has more details about the story and everything, so you get more informaition, although it may be a bit more slow moving then the anime version of the same story would be. for me, i read the manga if i want to learn more (or continue further) the storyline in the anime. but as for action sequences, i get too lost in the manga trying to get the full effect, those type of things just look better as an anime.

Well, it is better to watch the anime than reading the manga because the anime is like a movie and its moving, its more interesting to watch than reading the manga. The problem with anime is that so many anime stop before the movie is really finished and only manga have the rest of the movie. For example physic academy, hikaru no go which finish no long after sai was gone. So, id rather read the manga, no, its because I have no choice.

Well, manga IS the original work. Anime needs to have a lot of effoert put in, so i guess they stop before the real ending. But that's one good reason to prefer manga.

I like anime better because I don't get to read a lot of mangas since they are in different language. With anime, at least, most of it have subtitles that I can read and understand the story well. The anime contains some nice fillers too which are fun to watch.

That's a good point about anime! I guess language is troublesome. But if you can get subbed anime, you can get scantilations (even though they're troublesome to hunt out). Obviously, anime wins here. That's a point well put. Thanks a lot for your opinion!

for 90% of the time, i would say the manga is much better. for three main reasons: 1. for some reason manga has way better plot whereas anime tries to drag things out with filler episodes 2. sometimes they finish the anime before the original manga which makes for a crappy made up ending (like fruit basket) 3. for stories like sailormoon (to pick an old example that eveyone has to know), the anime does that transformation sequence over and over and over.... you get my point. it gets annoying after 3 or 4 times.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. The time SM transforms is 'Coffee-break came early' time or time to rest your eyes or discuss something else. When we watch it from CDs or DVDs I fast forward the entire thing... Thanks for the three points. Manga wins here!

well if from my point of view i choose anime since anime have BGM, colourful and of course we can hear speak from each char but not always anime better sometime manga can overcame that by using its drawing like tsubasa reservoir chronicle since it's said that tsubasa is better in manga than its anime

Id choose anime, it is easier to understand, although there are some translations that are weird or not clear. After working 9 I feel exhausted, Id rather watched TV than reading. It makes me more relaxed than reading because when Im reading, most of the time I fall asleep. I like watching, its a lot easier. I guess you can say that Im lazy by the way of my reasoning. All the best to all anime lovers!

Well, you're right of course. Anime is easier on the eyes... Sometimes, once i start reading a manga, I just can't seem to stop until i read them all. And usually, that means i stay up all night and look like some sleep-less zombie the next morning...but anime is some how different... Thanks a lot for your opinion...it helped a lot!

there's no right answer for that question, for the example, "Tsubasa reservoir chroncile" i read the manga & watch the anime. from the anime, i'm not really like it. it just like you said, the voice of some chars don't seem to suit the character. but, the anime has good side too, they have a nice song. the opening song & the ending song it's really good. that is for "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle" the another example is "Card Captor Sakura" it's the opposite from TRC. the anime is really good. the voice really suit to the character. the opening & ending song is good too. how about the manga ? it can't express the feeling like the anime. so i'm stop reading the manga. i'm prefer the anime in this case. so, to decide which is better is not that simple. but if i'm really much choose one of them, i will choose manga. most of them have a good qualities than anime.

Well, you're right actually. Some animes are way better than the manga like CCS and Sailor Moon...even though the entire plot is changed during the transfer. And the music themes are really good... On the other hand, mangas are better than anime in some case..like Hikaru No Go...even though the drawing is cooler and better, you can't just bring to life HnG in just half an hour... I appreciate the time you spent here, so, thanks a lot...

I prefer manga to a large extend. Mangas are the original work and somehow after reading the manga works you don't feel like seeing the anime with that much intrest. I find mangas alluring. Besides, the drawings in a manga are almost always better than that of the anime (which is more coulourful). For example: Skip Beat has real beautiful drawings, i don't feel like watching its anime (if there is one). There are rare animes that outshine the manga in many aspects. Sailormoon is one. And Getbackers is another. The anime is really beautiful and the retold story is better than the original manga. Basically, however, i feel mangas are better than animes.

Its a matter of choice in my case. Even if I have already watched a good number of anime, be it from local television broadcasts, cable channels or copies sold, I still prefer the manga since there are just certain contents in the manga that aren't really easily showed in the animated counterpart. Lets say that a particular manga has been animated. Though we can consider the alterations to accomodate the number of episodes that it can run for a series, certain details are also changed so that it can entertain an age range and wouldn't be offending towards a majority of viewers. Television is an immediate medium that anybody has access to. From children to adults, that's why certain shows are only aired during late nights 'cause it is assumed that those who aren't suppose to watch them are already asleep. Certain alterations are done but, don't entirely change the content of the story of the manga. I"s of Masakazu Katsura can be an example of what I'd indicating. Then, there are animes that are later turned into manga. Quite the opposite when you count to think of it when it comes to transitions since its mostly the manga first before the anime. A good series for this would be Vandread since the anime came out first and later on, followed by the release of its manga counter part. Though same in story, the manga dwells more on the intimate relationship that wasn't fully detailed in the anime. These are only my observations which in turn can be biased. Only opinions which incline me to choose manga more than anime.

It really depends. Anime is better for actiony manga's like naruto and bleach. but manga tends to have more detail and style than anime. i like watching anime more, because i get a better feel for a character when i can match a voice to a face. BUt the art from manga's are more beautiful and the tones have a great aspect of their own.
