I think you have to actually meet the animal before you can pick a suitable name. You need to take into account coloring, gender, size, and personality. The only dogs I have known have fit their names. A schnauzer named Mitzi, a little dog like the one in Wizard of Oz named Toto, several boxers named KatieMae, Nellie, and Sydney Star. It is just like naming a child. You won't know his/her name until you meet him/her.

I just go by what I think they look like. The only female dog I ever had, I named Little Booger. She was a small dog, and quite a lady, but she was such a little booger. I also named my "Taco Bell" dog Leno, and I have no idea why. He just looked like a Leno. The one big dog I had was milky white, but kinda of dark in coloring, so I named him White Chocolate. I do, however, try to think of a name I wouldn't be ashamed to call out for in the neighborhood if my dog ever got loose!

We once had a big dog named Bob! We now have a cubby pug named Rocky. For a small dog Tiny is cute. For a big dog, you have Butch. For a stupid dog, Meathead. LOL
