Kobe changed his number from 8 to 24 because it was his high school number. I believe he has taken a new step in evolving himself from being only a scorer to an all around playmaker. Besides, his stats in high school show him giving the ball up more and involving his teammates.

In my opinion, there maybe 2 reasons, the first one is obvious that number 8 is his high scholl number, and the second, which is more important to Kobe, i think, he want ot demonstrate that he is the King , the “boss“of Lakers, he has the ability to lead the Lakers to the champion, despite that Shap 's shipping out to Miami Heat.

Kobe change his jersey number from 8 to 24 only this year. He used the number 24 as his jersey number way back when he was high school. According to Kobe, he changed his number because its a new beginning. The beginning of the 2nd half of his career. Indeed its a new beginning as Kobe turned out to have more assist and trying to involve his teammates compared before.

Kobe changed his jersey number from 8 to 24 during the offseason. I think the number 24 is his old jersey number when he was playing high school basketball. The number change symbolizes the transformation from the old Kobe (ballhog) to the new one who shares the basketball with his teammates.
