Northern Lights - Where's the best place to see them?

For my next sojourn to Europe I want to see the Northern Lights. I'm not too much of an adventurer so the top of Iceland may not be for me. Do you know any easy to get to places with accommodation and good wine that I could go and soak in the experience? Also the best time of year.

Hey tetchie, I was so pleased about this post cos this is one of the things I would love to do myself. I read about a place that had hotel rooms all made of ice, and you can have trips out by horse drawn sled where you can view the lights. I think it was in Lapland. The 'hotel' looked truely amazing, they have all mod cons in it so you're not sitting in a block of ice freezing your butt off!! When you go please, please take some photos and tell me all about it! If I can find out the details I will pass them on to you!!
