Hi there...some cats can appear like they are saying words, but it is purely accidental and then smartly encouraged by the pet owners through rewards such as treats. If your cat can do this the key is to capture it the very exact moment and reward the sound you want to hear repeatedly in the future. This is how many animals are trained to perform professionally--speaking from experience since I'm an animal trainer to both exotic and domestic cats. of course. we love our cat I wish she could talk back at me, she will sound like teenagers these days ! Complaining about why she is kept indoor and the vet visits, plus eating vet food where other cats eat whatever they like.. etc etc

My cat has never talked (English that is) but I used to lived in an apartment where a neighbor cat would come by the door and say "hello". The first time, my boyfriend and I were shocked and then we just started laughing.

All my pets "talk" to me. I have two cats and two dogs. I think I encourage that by responding to them immediately when they make a noise toward me. Then they get the idea that I'll do that and repeat it later. One of my cats, Kasondra, will start meowing when you call her name. If you answer her, she does it back again, and keeps it up for quite a while. The other cat, Boosey, talks to you when he wants you to giv e him some attention. He'll answer when you talk to him with a really sweet voice.

I can't make my cat talk, but when he does, we answer him in the same noise he makes. He'll keep doing it up to 30 replies or so, but if we pet him he stops talking.

I am not sure that you can make them talk, but one of my young female cats talks to me all the time. If her food bowl is getting low, she comes up to me and definitely tells me about it. If she wants attention she will let you know it. So yes, I do thnk cats talk to us.
