house warming gift for USA home

I am looking to buy a house warming gift for a young male from Isreal who has just bought his 1st home in US. He has mentioned carma and wanting to keep good carma around the home. I didn't know if there was any custom or traditions.

send him a nice but easy to take care of house plant. or just find out what he needs to get started. My mother in law used to fill a laundrey basket with all kinds of odds and ends you know the small size sample stuff, just so he can get by for a feww weeks or so.
