Infant Ear Peircing...

Are you for or against? I did it with my oldest daughter, now two. We took the earrings out recently and are not peircing my new daughter (3 months) When I did it, I didn't put much research into it. I knew that keloids run in my family and the sooner you peirce, the better. I have found that out through my own experience. Now, I've decided that a two year old with earrings is a headache... so we're not doing it with our youngest. What are your thoughts?

My daughter is 3 months old and I think I'll wait until she's older. I just think they will be easier to take care of when she's able to control her hands. I saw a one year old with her ears pierced a few days ago and she was playing with her earrings. I'm afraid of what could happen with the tugging.

They were very easy to take care of as a baby... really! The main draw back now is that her hair is much longer and sometimes gets tangled in her earrings when she sleeps. We never had aproblem with her tugging at them though....

my mother also pierced mine at a VERY young age. i love it. i now i have over 12 holes in my ears, and ilove the fact that i dont have to worry about my bottom holes closeing up. the way things are going its like 80% that when your child gets older she will want them. im not sure at what age im going to pierce my daughters.. im thinking maybe 6month to a year. the sqrew on backings are the best bet when piercing them at a young age.

i think that people should wait to get their daughters ears pierced until the child is older and asks you for it...my parents did that for me...i was 9 when i got mine done, and thats because i asked for it, and not my parents doing it when i was a baby...and ill do the same with my daughter if i ever have one...it will be HER choice and not MINE...

I had my ears pierced when i was 6 months old. my mother said i have never had any problems. I did it at the same age for my daughter and she is ok. i found that the regular earings she could sometimes pull out so i bought some that screw in and they've never fallen out.

I'm not really for or against it. I got mine pierced as a baby. I'm having a daughter this summer and I don't plan on getting hers done until she is old enough to ask for them and be responsible for keeping them clean and not messing with them. I do think thought that if a parent is going to get their child's ears pierced they need to do it when they are either old enough to take care of them properly or young enough to not even realize they are there. I think it is a mistake for parents to do it for toddlers, once they know that something is in their ear they will mess with it which can lead to infection and pain. A baby doesn't even know they have ears and when they discover them the earrings will just be part of them, not something new to play with.
