How come Americans serve up potato chips with fish or burgers instead of French fries. I learned this the hard way in Michigan. Imagine my disappointment. Gimme my fries dammit! Or onion rings.

may be you asked for fish and chips. chips in most other countries are French fries. potato chips in those countries are called crisps, so if you are not from the States, you might have said you wanted chips instead of French fries. happy mylot day.

Not every american or american restauraunt does this. Most of the time, there is the option of french fries even if they normally do serve chips. You just have to check the menu. If you are at a home, that is the option of the cook, unfortunately. I can tell ya' if I served chips my hubby and son would personally get out the fries and deep fat frier to make their own *L*. They adore their fries.
