How do you get rid of a backdoor virus?

AVG-free does not seem to be able to detect much less do anything about a few back door viruses that are currently on one of our computers at home. Norton detects them but I don't know if it's because it needs upgrading but it cannot even delete them, though it can quarantine some of the files. What can I do about this? U would prefer a free antivirus solution but I do not mind paying if I were guaranteed to be virus-free.

i think the best way is no to have the vires in your computer ,so we should have a anti-virus.i suggest you to use the new anti-virus ,it's names avast.it .s a good soft ware.can kill most of the virs.the more important is the soft ware is free.

I couldn't get the avast website to load properly on the pc that had the problem (although it looked fine on my work PC...go figure!), so I couldn't try it out. What has happened though is I have discovered that the AVGfree software was in need of upgrading, which is why it couldn't detect the viruses. I have since upgraded it and it works beautifully. This morning in the wee hours of the morning, it was caging some trojans which are now safely behind bars in the virus vault (yay!)...the new AVG found over 80 "bad boys" so I feel confident that it is working properly now and I don't think I will need Avast or another antivirus software after all. But thanks again for the recommendation!

Better to upgrade your Norton AV first before doing any other thing. Norton might still remove it.

I really, really don't want to pay for Norton because its reputation is not all that great to begin with...if I pay for AV it must be the very best.
