Romance Novels. Are you guilty?

I am ashamed to admit that every summer I take a trip to the used book store and stock up on light summer reading that mainly consists of books with shirtless men on the cover. I'm sure at one point or another we have all been interested at what kind of story could possibly occupy the 400 pages behind the half naked man and woman. Are you guilty of ever reading one? Do you think they belittle women? Does a loved on read them and you just can't figure out why? Do you have a favorite? Share your thoughts! I for one enjoy them because there is no thinking involved. If you have read one, you know the plot ahead of time. You know there is a happy ending. You know there is no cliff hanger because who in the right mind would go out and buy a sequel to one of these books? You know the good characters will find love, and the bad ones wont. It's so easy to read a book where love is the reward and the punishment. My favorite kind are the ones where the couples have connections deeper than love. Where the author has you convinced that they were destine to be together from birth. The only one I ever cried while reading was Remembrance by Jude Deveraux. She's my favorite romance author.

Guilty as charged. I still have the habit of buying romance novels almost every month and i started this 6 years ago! I love them for their happy endings especially books published by Harlequin and Mills and Boon. For me, my favourite kinds are the ones where the couples go through misunderstandings and all sorts of tense situations before finally realising that they have always loved each other.

I am not only guilty of reading romance, but I write it as well. I have many many favorite authors, most of them are historical romance. I love stories that weave in real historical events and people into the storyline. My favorite author is Bertrice Small. Secondly, I love Linda Lael Miller's books. As for modern type romance authors, I enjoy reading Nora Roberts as well. Happy reading.
