A woman President or an African American President

This is a topic of conversation almost daily in my house, and I was just curious as to what the rest of the world thought. Do you think that our country is more ready for a woman president, or an African American president?

I dont see anything wrong with a woman for president or african for president. At this point anyone would be better then what we have now. He is one our worst presidents I have ever experienced.

I agree with Terryz. The clinton years weren't that bad. I don't think. Especially when compared to the deadly Bush years.

Clinton actually had great foreign policy. I bet most presidents cheat on their wives, he just did it too openly. And can't you remember those were years that we weren't messing around in Iraq? ;)

Are you serious? Don't you remember the Clinton scandal?

If Russel Honore ran for president I would vote for him in a heartbeat, I don't care who else is running. I'm a liberal democrat with "Green" leanings, but I think this country needs a stronger leader than the ones we have had for all of my adult life. Before you say that a military leader would take us to war all the time, I inclined to disagree. I think that a military general has an advantage over one who hasn't been to war in that he knows how this war will affect both countries, not simply our own and not simply our soldiers. I have yet to find a female candidate that I would support, nothing wrong with Clinton, exactly, but I don't see her as a firm leader. As a woman, I will not vote for a female candidate just because she is a woman.

I've heard some people say that a woman wouldn't make a good president because we're too emotional. Is that the reason you wouldn't vote for a woman?

Whether women are more emotional or not does not affect their ability to make decisions. Look at the president we currently have-- he is aided all the time by cabinet members, staff, etc., to help him make decisions, so I don't like it when people use that as an excuse. Hopefully someday a strong female leader will emerge out of the pack and change many of our political policies. The US claims to be so forward, yet we are chained to notions like that the president needs to be a white male. This is about as traditional as it gets.

I would vote for an african american president, but I'm sorry to say that I would never vote for a female president.

I'm inclined to agree with you, given the current candidates. I can't stand Hillary Clinton, she's so fake! What if the woman was a better candidate though?

Obama has a good chance, but I don't know if he has enough foreign policy experience to make it.

I didn't realize that about Obama, that's interesting. I like him as well, he seems very articulate.

I don't know if I can answer that question one way or the other. I believe that the American people are just ready for a change. I think that this next Presidential race for the first time is going to be a true representation of our culture at present day. We have more women in the workforce, getting college degrees and heading their households in greater numbers than ever before in our history. In addition, for the first time in history,African-Americans represent a strong force in American culture, economics and politics. Whatever, the outcome, I think the presidential race will for the first time accurately represent all Americans in terms of race, gender and ideology.

Does it really matter? I am not in your country so my apologies if you are offended by such a commend from an outsider. But looking from where I am, I think any one can do a better job than the current President. A person shouldn't be judged by race or color but by the things he had done.

In theory, I agree with you completely! The reality is, however, we live in a very critical world, and people DO judge based on appearances :o( Maybe one day, everyone will all just get along :o)
