Social Problem with people.

I have a social problem that is a little difficult to explain. It's been this way for a long time. I can't start a simple conversation with my friends and its very hard to do. All I can ever talk about is schoolwork. It sounds loserish but that is all I can ever talk about. I have a lot of cool friends too. I now have a best friend whom we just met a couple of weeks ago and shes awesome! We talk a lot on myspace and all that other stuff but everytime I see her in the hallway I get a little shy and have only a little to say. It's like "Hey wassup?" then "nothing much!" She does more of the talking and I do little. I can never think of anything to say. I feel socially inept. Its not only with her, but also with a lot of friends. HELP PLEASE!!
