I just droped my 2 cats off at a traveling vet van to get them fixed. have 1 male and 1 female so I NEED to get them fixed. They told me when I call to make the appointment that the medication they use dosnt always agree with the cat and the cat dies. I am totally nervous right now. Even tho my cats are healthy, normal house cats something could still go wrong. Has any one had there cats fixed? Were there any complications? How long was there healing time?Is there any special care that they dont tell you about?Any info about this would be greatly appreciated.

We got our cats right after they were fixed (we picked them out and then the non-profit group got them fixed). The heal times for the males is really quick. He had his stiches out in less than a week, but it took about a month for his fur to grow back and you can't see his scars. Our female is a different story. The poor baby went in and the surgery went fine, but then her sister chewed her stiches! So she had to go back and get the wound cleaned out and re-sewn. After we had her about a week, we had the stiches removed and she was okay. However, she still has a visible mark on her belly because the hair won't grow where the scar is. It too her fur almost two months to grow back! The surgery is always harder on the females than the males, so your male may bounce back quicker than your female.

Even if they would have used dissolving stitches, I would have still taken them for a follow up appointment to be safe. Our vet is really big into followin gup with the cats, even if it is just a phone call a week after we see her.

Both of my female cats are fixed. The healing time isn't that long, from what I remember. The only time I've ever come across any complication was with my cat that I had a long time ago. The vet was obviously a nut job.. the sutures (stitches) got infected- they weren't done right or something. So they had to be taken out and redone. And so my cat had a scar there you could feel for quite some time. But generally, it's not a problem. Just make sure the area is kept clean, I guess. They usually use stitches that dissolve, or something, so that you don't have to bring the cats back in to have them taken out. So that's a good thing.

My cats have always been spayed or neutered, the males surgery takes about two minutes and is very uncomplicated, mine have never had any infection from it either. The female of course have it alittle worse off, as usual, with all their stuff being inside , but it was only an overnight jaunt and a couple days recovery as well.Expect them to be a little sleepy and out of sorts, but ok.I've never heard of any kind of meds that would hurt a cat like that, and I was in animal rescue for quite some time, try not to worry too much, you're doing the right thing!

I have never heard this from any vets here. I have had my share of cats and they have all been fixed without any complications at all. I do belive that it is the responsible thing to do as ann owner unless u are going to use them for breed=)

My little guy was fixed a few months back. We dropped him off in the morning and picked him up in the evening. He was very tired and slept a lot, but apart from that he was perfectly fine. He even gave the vet some cuddles, no hard feeling at all. So far I've personally known more than 20 cats who've been fixed and they're all alive today :)

I don't know about the medication making cats die sometimes. I'm sure in rare instances it can happen. Maybe your just over doing it and getting a little excited over the paperwork they make you sign about risks? Maybe you shouls take the cats someplace else? I'm not sure where you are but here in Arizona there is a place called nip n tuck and you buy the certificate online. For cats girls are 25.00 and boys are 15.00 and they give you a choice of a few different vets to go to. I just had my boy kitty fixed and he is totally fine.. He is a little more hyper than he was before though. He was fixed about a month ago.

We have 4 rescued cats - Sassafras (Sassy) a white, fluffy Turkish Angora mix, age 10 - Tigger, a orange-striped tabby, aged 7 1/2 - tiny, black and fluffy Morgana (who we call Li'l Bitz) is 4 yrs, and our newbie Nor, a fawn colored little devil, aged 1 1/2 yrs. They are all spayed or neutered and we had no complications. Healing time is about a 1 1/2 weeks for females and males a few days.

Both my cats were fixed and there were no complications. It was done when they were young, however, so perhaps it is different once they are older. Are your cats no longer kittens? As far as I know, it is important to keep them from bothering their stitches too much. Also, make sure they are able to get around alright for the little while after the operation, during which they may still be acting strangely from the anesthetic. Be gentle with them while they are healing, and if they are outdoor cats, it would be a good idea to keep them indoors.

Our cat did vomit afterward several times and it was nasty!! But my cats have always done fine you figure that the people at the traveling vet van just do this over and over again so they are pretty good at the procedures.Usually walking around in one or two days and still sore a week or two.I imagine some cats may have a longer healing time. I have found tinned food to be best for them afterward they seem to digest it easier for the first day or so only.

Im really surprised that they would tell you that they might die, but I guess they are covering their butts. I have had 4 cats, all of them fixed at about 5 or 6 months of age. The healing time was relatively quick for the boys. After about a day they were back to being themselves. The girls have a little harder time, as usual. :) Make sure that you watch their pee and stools to make sure there is no blood. They might not feel like eating at first, but make sure they drink water. They'll be fine! Please let us know how they do!

Oh they are so cute. I had my two cats fixed when they were kittens and I was worried too. One of them was over sedated and I worried about that one until the next day when she started to perk up. I was upset when I got her home but everything turned out ok and I am sure your kitties will too. They are adorable

I had my male cat fixed as soon as he was old enough for the doctor's age range rules. I had a cat for 7 years prior to Casper, the cat I have now (11 yrs old) and I did not get him fixed fast enough. He was already spraying urine everywhere by the time I did that it did not change afterwards. I called the Vet several days later and he explained that once they spray that first time, whether neutered, they will still because now it's triggered their instincts.

i got my cat fixed and he had no problem. just being sore. i dont think your cats will die from it. it's a pretty simple proceedure. when my cat got home that night he was running and jumping all over the place. cats aren't supposed to jump or run around after the surgery. there's not much care except no food the night before they go in. there's really no extra things you should do. they will probably act normal. hope this helps you and your cats will be ok..

I have a male cat who I had fixed when he was about 9 months old (he was a stray), he is now 10 years old, so I'm a little vague on the details, but I do know he recovered in less than a week (boys bounce back faster). They do say that neutered male cats are more prone to getting fat, but he ate like a mini-cow before he was fixed, too, so I just limit his food. I'm sure your babies will be fine and milk all the attention they can out of their recovery. Good luck.

Well, first off never let them around any stairs. Stairs are bad. The cats act a little drunk after the surgery because of the meds. The drool a bit too but after a while they get a lot better. My cat, William, came about in a few hours he was ok. What you don't want to do is feed them for a while they'll have a little bit of an upset stomach.

All four of my cats are fixed. I have one female and three males. It is a fairly routine procedure and your animals should not have any problems. I didn't even have to go back to the vet to get stitches removed - the vet used the kind of stitches that dissolve. Your male cat will probably be back to normal the next day - mine barely noticed anything different. I think that getting your cats fixed at an early age is the best thing. I had all of my cats fixed at 6 months old, and they all had no complications. And they are young and heal very fast.
