I am just curious what everyone thinks about the idea of gay people being able to marry. Where does the government have to draw the line? do we allow some peoples religious views to make the rules for all of us? and if we do, how is that in any way the america our fore fathers set out to create?

Personally, I don't understand homosexuality but that doesn't mean I am against it. Being gay doesn't cause anyone else any problems what so ever so I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to get married. I will admit that I think it's weird but they should be allowed to live how they want to live.

I do not think any person's personal beliefs (religion) should get in the way of either agreeing with or not agreeing with gay marriage. To me I do not see the difference between a gay couple or a straight couple wanting to get married (not talking about the obvious difference between the two couples), in both sets of couples they are wanting to make their love eternal through the honor of marriage. I do understand that to some it is a sin, but the church also preaches about God forgiving a person's sins if that person truely wants forgiveness. Anywho I am not Christian, so maybe that is why I am open to the thought of a man and man or woman and woman getting married. We are not "God", so we should stop trying to judge couples that are gay. I don't think the government should play a part in matters of who a person loves. They cannot stop a person from feeling the way they do, and it's wrong of anyone to force people into a certain belief about love. We can't just shut our feelings down, just because someone says that it is wrong.

TURE BUT THE GOVERNMENT5 should OVERSEE THE MORE THAN 3000 RIGHTS THAT COME ALONG WITH THE RELIGIOUIS CERMONY.. I THINK THE WORD MARRIGE SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE CONSTITUTION ALL TOGETHER.. WANT TO GET MARRIED? ITS A RELIGIOUS INSTITUTION, GO SEE A PREIST.. NOW IF YOU WANT A LEGAL CONTRACT JOINING YOU LEGALLY.. GO TO THE GOVERNMENT.. THAT IS ALL.. IT IS A CONTRACT.. ONE THAT GRANTS OTHERWISE UNOBTAINABLE RIGHTS.. THIS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO ALL PEOPLE... TWO MEN, TWO WOMEN, BROTHER AND SISTER, WHO EVER.. NOT BASED ON LOVE BUT ON EQUAL RIGHTS.. AGAIN MARRIAGE NEEDS TO STAY IN THE CHURCH WHERE IT BELONGS

I dont see why the government is poking their nose in things such as this. I recall a thing called the separation of church and state, and I also remember life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I don't think the government has any right to interfere in these matters as they are personal. Why the government is fighting something that has NOTHING to do with issues that actually matter such as the amount of people dying in Iraq, and everything else is beyond me. The government needs to stay out of personal matters, including the right to marry whomever you want. It's none of their business.
