What was the first job you ever had? Did you work there for a long time? Did you like it? I'll tell you about mine: The first job I ever had was a babysitter... I did that for about two years maybe while I was still going to school (like grades 7 and 8) and I took the school bus home with them, and then their parents drove me home at night lol... I didn't mind it, cause the pay was pretty good for babysitting rates (which are pretty bad compared to normal pay) and it was just like I was playing with kids for a while.

Ooh... that sounds like fun. I wouldn't have minded doing something like that, except I was still in school when I started working, so it wouldn't have worked so well.

Right after high school I was a busboy at a local restaurant. I got fired after two weeks for being too slow. But they had an opening as dishwasher/food prep guy, so I ended up doing that the week after being fired. Later I got promoted to cook.

lol... for my second job I worked as a waitress in a small place and they were giving me trouble cause I couldn't carry four plates at once without a tray making me too slow. I'm not sure how I was supposed to do that, especially since I was small at the time. I was only fifteen. They later told me that they didn't need my services, and kept the other kid on... and about three months later showed up at my door asking me to work for them again. I said no lol...

The first job I ever had: I believe it was one of the last "Full-service" gas stations in America, where I had to actually pump other people's gas. I didn't make any tips either, the owner just charged more per gallon! And I'm only 25 now, 16 at the time, so we're talking just 9 years ago. I also worked the cash register and cleaned the place. Not to bad for $6.50/hour. I believe minimum wage was about 5 dollars. I worked about every other day after school, 3-9pm. It paid for a lot of stuff I got in highschool. Fun times...

My first job was at Pizza Hut! I was the 'phone girl' for a while, then started as a waitress. I actually got the job through a friend who worked there. Her mom was the general manager so I didn't really even have to interview for it. But with the perks, came the downfalls. Since I was a friend of the manager's daughter, I was pretty much the first one they called when someone called out or when there was a snowstorm and they needed someone to open. But hey, I've got great memories and made alot of great friends! Wouldn't change it for the world!

well i guess you could say babysitting but my first job where i got a paycheck and had to pay taxes was Mary Sirota Market Research. Man i hated that job lol i was one of those annoying ppl that call you on the phone and ask you to do a survey or corner you at the mall. I would never ever ever do this job again. I am a more tolerant for the ones who still do this job but i hated it. I only worked there 6 months and could not take it anymore.

Ah, but still, it seems like a good way to have a first job. Mine was only part time too during the school year. I only worked for a couple hours a night... but during the summer it was full time :)

i was a janitor in a growing public utility office, my first honest job. im still with the office where i first work, i practically rose from rank and the company awarded me a plaque of loyalty (and a 20,000 incentive bonus- in pesos). after 31 long years in that office, i still acted like a janitor in our home because i personally do the cleaning in our front and backyard as well as the comfort rooms, my field of expertise as a janitor.

My first job occured when i was 14. The very day a grocery store opened one mile from our house, my father stated "son, its time for you to work." I heartily agreed, being young and foolish. The store only allowed me to work weekends, but when i turned 16 i was given a lot of hours. I am still 16, and only 2 weeks ago left the store to be a waiter. I am now fully trained and enjoying my job, althought its both mentally and physically fatiguing. =) I make much more money at mu current job.

I know about the mental and physical fatigue that comes from waiting on people lol... been there done that, and gained a lot more respect for people in those jobs. It's a lot harder than it looks.

My first job was a babysitting job too. I began that when I was 12. But my first job away from anyone's home was a dishwasher at a summer camp. The pay was terrible, but it was so much fun! We only had to actually work for about 4 hours a day, but we had all our meals included, free overnight stays for the whole week in the bunk house, and all the activities the campers did! (The pool was the best) It was a great job. I did that for just a couple weeks one summer, because that is all we were allowed to give most of the teens a chance to work who applied. I loved it.

My first job was a Food/Service on our local food cahin here and the philippines. I also work at McDonald's as maintenance/service crew. I had fun working on fastfood chains but find it hard to earn for a living at the same time. But most of the time I get to know people from different walks of life, it made me more aware on interacting to customers.

Yea, it doesn't seem like people in the food service industry pay that well to the employees, but it is certainly nice to be able to talk with all the different people that come through, because you really can learn a lot from there, if not earn a lot :P

Learn how to sell your products and convinced them to buy it.

My first work is as a QC Inspector in a plastic injection molding company. This is just right after I graduated from college. Everything was doing fine then, I was getting along with my co-workers and it seems my immediate superiors have impressive reaction to my work. But I only stayed for a few months because I was accused for something that I did not do. Anyway I had fun and enjoy my first work experienced (though I really felt bad about it).

That sounds close to what happened in my third job, where I was working with my big sister. They were saying many things about her that weren't true, and because of that, we both quit the job together. I couldn't just let people talk like that about those I care for, and my sister later told me how much it ment to her for me to stick up for her too.
