I think it's insane. My son was hit by a car and we were uninsured. I had to apply for state asistance and was told I would have to pay a $3000 share of cost payment per month in order to be eligible. LOL I couldn't believe it. My husbands car insurance paid the $10000 PIP so we qualified for state coverage for the first month. We had to hire an attorney and all my son's medical bills are being recorded for a lawsuit against the man who hit my son. The man only had PIP, so we couldn't sue his insurance. We have to file a civil case. In the mean time I have to pay cash for my son's doctors visits and hope to reimbursed.
