I would look for someone my children comfortable with immediately they meet her/him. It is important for them to feel that they are with somone who they can rely on while i'm away. There's no need for i am the only one who trust the babysitter but not my children. The babysitter also needs to be someone who with jovial and pleasing character. A person who loves children? Yes, definitely a must to me.

As a babysitter I get parents who tell me what they are looking for so I thought I should share. They want to see responsibility obviously. But besides that parents seem to want sitters that the kids like. I know that having the parents like me is important but if the kids don't like me the parents are not likely to ask me back. Most of the time I go for a trial sitting to see how the kids respond to me and then we take it from there. Most people take their kids opinions fairly seriously because if I child does not like their sitter they are not likely to behave. I also work for a lot of work from home parents in which case they want me to be able to entertain their kids and have a lot of fun but still not make a lot of noise. Most of the time you can see all of these things just in 10 minutes of watching your kids interact with someone.
