engine turns over will not start

Orange Diagnostic light ( the one that looks like an engine) lit up, whilst driving, but with no obvious problems. Pulled over and switched off the engine. when I came to restart, the engine turned over but no sign of starting. All dashboard light illuminated and went out as normal when I turned the key.
