My friends have been arguing about their 11 year old daughter wearing makeup. The father is Not ok with it. I say maybe a little. Just some light lipstick and some blush, just a little. What do you think?

I think 11 is way too young. Ugh. but then again, I don't wear make-up. I had such bad acne as a teenager, and make-up made it WORSE. I think if a kid wants to wear make-up, they have to buy it for themselves. So if she has a babysitting job, or is earning her money and she chooses to spend it on make-up, fine. But I think it just looks horrible on little girls. And their need to wear it shows they are already being sucked into the marketing machine that is the american media - telling these girls they have to be "pretty" to be loved and accepted. I think they should learn to love themselves, before they start hiding behind make-up. If I had an 11 year old - MAYBE colored lip gloss would be OK, but that's as far as I would go.

I think the problem is that we are buying into the marketing and trying to present our children as adults way to young.

At first, I believe not until my daughter was 16 years old. But then...I had a girl. LOL Her friends started wearing makeup in middle school. I still thought that was too young. I even think 11 years old is too young. But I gave in when my daughter started high school. Kids grow up so fast now, I wanted to be sure that she understood that there was no reason to rush it. So, she waited until high school for makeup and even then...no foundation that will ruin her skin! To this day, she wears a little eyeshadow around her eyes and a bit of lip gloss every now and then. But that lip gloss thing is her choice. I gave her the option of mascara but warned that it is hard to get off and can leave you with raccoon eyes. LOL She learned that the hard way and does not use that either. She has plenty of time to grow up and when she is ready...she will experiment more. :)

We need to ensure that the marketing doesnt make our children think less of themselves and need the products just because it makes them find fault with themselves.

i could not wear makeup out in public until i was 13. we could do play makeup at home before then but i always had to wash my face before i went out. I thinks kids espically girls are trying to grow up too fast now adays so i am with the father on this one.

I think 11 is to young I was 13 when I started to wear makeup. But its so different now they are doing things at a much younger age. How sad is that?

I started wearing pink lips stick when I was thirteen, and didn't wear powder or mascara or eye liner until I was married and 27 years old.......My Grandma and Mom always told us that if God wanted our face painted up he would have painted it that way...... If your friends daughters is having trouble with their father they may want to start with lip gloss and slowly go into the other stuff.....Fathers always think their daughters should never start wearing makeup because that means they are going up and they want them to stay little girls all their lives.... Just wait till they start dating boys......

I personally think that an 11 year old does not need make up except for maybe a very special occasion. I think an 11 year old should take advantage of natural beauty and be happy about that. I didn't wear make up until I was about 14 or 15 and I didn't have any problems with that. I think that a child (11 year olds are STILL children) has beautiful skin and should keep it clean and beautiful naturally.

I just started wearing make-up this year. I'm eighteen. I just wear some foundation and eye shadow. Nothing heavy.

I think that 11 is WAY too young to be wearing make-up. I really don't understand people who allow their young daughters to dress sexy and put on make-up. Don't they realize that they are practically inviting grown men to stare at them and lust after them? I say, let children be children. They will grow up soon enough....11 years old is just a baby for God's sake.

My parents were very strict about wearing makeup when I was growing up. I was not alone to wear makeup until I was 18. My younger sister was allowed to wear makeup at 13 though. It didn't really seem fair at the time but she really did NEED makeup to help her feel better about herself. I had very clear skin except for an ocassional breakout. My sister has always had problems with hers. As a parent of 3 girls, (18,15 and 2) I didn't allow my older girls to wear makeup until they were 13. The rule was in moderation or lose the priviledge. I think a lot of girls are wearing it at much younger ages. Maybe you can make a compromise. Light makeup, but not at home. This way can adjust to the idea.

I would agree with the dad 11 is too young. I would say by they time they go into the eighth grade. I will do like my mother did, she took me to a department store and had the lady teach me how to wear make-up appropriately, and what colors complimented me. Maybe at 11 I would let her where colored lip gloss.

I've known kids who wear make up as early as 13 years old. It depends mostly on what type of environment they are in. BUt I think it really depends on the person itself. I think the safest is around 17 or so. =)

For me it bothers me to see little girls 12 and under wearing it. i think they are so beautiful and don't need it. I think until about age 16 becaue that's when i would let a child date so i think makeup should come at that age too. man i'm 24 and i don't even wear any.

I think we hold off as long as possible. It is gonna be impossible soon enough with all the pressure from her peers.
